About resolution for motorized rotating stage and motorized linear slide

Resolution, also referred to as display or encoder resolution, is the smallest increment for 

motorized rotating stage and motorized linear slide that a motion control system can be 

commanded to move and or detect motorized rotating stage and motorized linear slide. 

It is not the same as the min incremental motion. A system for motorized rotating stage 

and motorized linear slide may or may not be able to consistently make incremental moves equal to the resolution. 

The actual motion of the motorized rotating stage and motorized linear slide’s device may be different due to stiction, 

backlash, friction, load, external forces, system dynamics, controller, vibrations, inertia or other mechanical issues.
